Design Concept

Inspired by the satirical donkey imagery in the works of Francisco Goya (1746–1828), this work reconstructs ancient expressive depictions of donkeys through collage on wooden panels. The composition juxtaposes raw historical imagery with the structured order of printmaking paper, creating a tension between spontaneity and control.

Diluted oil paint is splashed across the surface with turpentine, allowing stains, flows, and color blocks to interact freely, forming a visual rhythm similar to a stream of consciousness. Through the symbolic figure of the donkey, the work bridges ancient and contemporary contexts, transforming a traditional cultural image into a reflection on labor, obedience, survival, and the invisible burdens carried by individuals in modern society.

The piece explores the fragile balance between order and desire, discipline and instinct, questioning the human condition through the enduring metaphor of the donkey.
